Color for the Weekend: Blue

Dreamy blue Delphinium in our Driveway Garden this weekend.
This pretty Delphinium is special for its true blue color, but also because it is the first one that I have been able to grow from seed! (Finally!) After a few attempts, over several years, this one finally is blooming in my garden.

I have heard it said that you are not a real gardener until you have killed a few plants. Well, I have had more than my share! Especially in the beginning.

I hope you are enjoying the triumphs... and even the trials... of your very own garden this weekend!

  1. Yes, we all learn from trial and error, but you have your first self sown Delphinium. My favourites and I have still lots of seedlings in pot to plant out, but where......... Not much of gardening this weekend for me we have lots of heavy showers, help, are my Delphiniums still standing strong? Staking is not always sufficient here.

  2. Such a pretty blue! I was told that you weren't a proper gardener if you don't sow seeds and take cuttings, well now I've mastered both at last so I think after 20 yrs I qualify!

  3. Lovely blue. I've a small clump of blue Delphiniums that don't have a proper home in my garden. Your blog has inspired me to sort that issue out!

  4. Beautiful and such a pure blue. I've always longed for Delphiniums, but have to be content with the lowly Larkspur (Consolida) because of our hot and humid climate.

  6. I love blue flowers, and that Delphinium is charming. I don't try my luck with delphiniums, I don't think the conditions are right here. The blue we have right now is mostly from our Spiderwort, Salvia and Geraniums. Later there will be Agastache, Veronicastrum, Clematis, and (I hope) Morning Glory.

  7. Blue is my favorite color! I find it very difficult to photograph blue flowers. For some reason the color just is never right. I have never been very successful growing from seed but I keep trying!

  8. Beautiful blue Delphiniums! Mine are about to bloom, too, and I can't wait. I had some for several years, and then one year they just croaked. So I planted more last year, and I'm glad to see them back! Enjoy!

  10. Good going with the delphinium! I gave them up after many years of their acting like annuals in my first garden. But I do swoon when I see them!!
