Welcome November!

Rudbeckia seedheads
What a beautiful autumn we have had! This October was as nice a one as I can remember.

The other day on our trip to Buhl Park, my second grader spotted these Rudbeckia seedheads and exclaimed, "Wow! These were beautiful!" That makes my mama gardener's heart happy to hear that she is beginning to see past the present views in a garden an identify what was there.

Of course the next step is to be be able to exclaim, "How beautiful those Black-eyed Susan seedheads are!" But that kind of enjoyment takes some time to grow into. :)

If you enjoy seeing the beauty of decline in the garden, I can recommend nothing better than Piet Oudolf's Instagram photos. Amazing views of ornamental grasses, flowers and foliage in the delicate dying stages of the garden. Enjoy!

Sweet autumn to you, my garden friends!

  1. Wow! I'm not IG, but I sure appreciate it when you point out something as lovely as you have today (and a time or two before, as I recall). There is certainly a beauty in the waning flora.

  2. This picture of the Rudbeckia seedheads is stunning! Nature is wonderful also when the decay falls in.
I am NOT YET on Instagram, I will come but I think all these social media eats time....... Of course I know
Piet Oudolf's garden very well, I've been their several times also in autumn.
    Have a nice day!

    1. Thanks for your complements, Janneke!

One thing that is nice about Instagram is that you do not NEED to follow it or have an account, but can just to check in and see some beautiful, current photos. In that way, it can be used as just another blog.

And I do find that it takes much less time during my week to post a few photos onto Instagram, than it does to write a full & beautiful blog post. I am pleased to have a less time consuming option for writing about my garden at the moment!

How nice to have been to Piet's garden several times! What a dream!
