Color for the Weekend

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) in our Shade Path Garden this week.
The summer flowers are really coming out this week in our garden: asiatic lilies, daylilies (Hemerocallis) and now the oakleaf hydrangeas. This one is planted by some white streaked hosta, which work as supporting cast for the hydrangea blooms. We have several other white-variegated plants in this garden (see a few here).

We have had a full week at our house, beginning for exam for the RHS on Monday, summer cleaning the house Tuesday (...which is what gardens do because they are too busy making everything a mess in the spring to clean it up!), meeting with new clients for a garden design on Wednesday, family visiting on Thursday and finishing planting for this garden design on Friday. And that is really just scratching the surface! (...making three meals a day, picking up toys, drinking tea with hubby, washing laundry, folding laundry, picking up more toys, etc, etc)

I hope you have a beautiful weekend living & loving the beauty around you.
~Julie

  1. Oakleaf is one of my favorite hydrangeas. It looks fabulous in so many garden styles. I know what you mean...trying to keep up with life (especially with children) and be a gardener is challenging!

  2. I think every white-flowering plant should have white-variegated foliage under it. Great pictures!

  5. You are too busy. I am, too. I want to find time to breathe, but that will have to wait for next weekend. ;-) Love the Oakleaf Hydrangea! I hope you find some time to relax during the 4th holiday or the weekend. Take care!

  7. What a glorious time of year! For the first time in almost 18 years in my house, my garden is being raided by deer and Oakleaf Hydrangeas appear to be one of their favorite buffet items. Yikes! Happy summer!
