Tulip 'Apricot Impression' in the Hill Garden

Tulip 'Apricot Impression' in the Hill Garden

Tulip 'Apricot Impression' in front of purple barberry.
The moss phlox (Phlox subulata) on the Hill is just starting to crack open its purple flowers.
A white-flowering ornamental pear tree stands at the top of the Hill Garden, and also at the front of the Driveway Garden. They frame our extra parking area.

Tulip 'Apricot Impression' is a Darwinian hybrid, which will hopefully perennialize in this very well drained garden bed for years to come. I have planted other tulips in this garden over the past few years, but wanted to plant something this year that would be a bit more enduring than the Triumph and Lily-flowering tulips.
Do you have a favorite tulip this spring?

  1. Maybe it is the light but they look very orange to me. Until I finished ready I thought perhpas they had been in the ground a few years and had lost their apricot colour. That said they look lovely where you have planted them. Christina

  2. Wow, what a vibrant color! I have a hill I am getting ready to plant some moss phlox on. I love the tiny flowers when they are all in bloom.

  4. Your tulips are saying that spring has arrived, I feel they are a bit bright to be called apricot, but they look so cheerful in your lovely garden.

  5. Thanks all! These were taken in some very intense, mid-day sun, so you see what they look like at that time of day. I am going to post some photos of them on a rainy morning where they look quite pink! I think perhaps that is one reason why I have favored apricot/salmon tulips, because they play such games with their color in different lights. Wonderful weekend to you!!
