My kids and I had a fun day yesterday morning playing hooky from our homeschool to shop for new pots for tulip planters. We even had a picnic in November! Fun memories.
The photo above shows the very end of Dahlia 'Heat Wave' in the Front Walk. I forked them up and hosed them off for storage last Friday. It was hard to move on to the next season, but so encouraging to be tucking more bulbs in their place for spring. (Tulip Princess Irene should make a really punchy combination with Spirea 'Goldflame' on the Front Walk in April.)
Happy fall planting!
I still need to get all my bulbs in the ground. I'd better hurry up! Yesterday, my kids had an early release day so we took an afternoon walk in the woods. Those are the best memories! Sounds like you had a great day with your kiddos too!
ReplyDeleteI miss not being able to garden with kids...what a wonderful experience...love these autumn mornings with the unusual sun and warmth...
ReplyDeleteWell done Julie getting all your bulbs in, you must feel very satisfied. As you say it is good that times change and move on, I wouldn't like it to be summer all year; I love the changing seasons. Christina
ReplyDeleteSounds like a special way to spend the day with your kids! Those memories are so important; you'll all cherish and hold them close to your heart.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day with your children. Great memories. They will be so excited when the bulbs come up!
ReplyDeleteThose are the good days, the sun, learning without realizing that you are....enjoy them.

My kids are home from school today for Veteran's Day, and all I can say to the homeschooling moms is WOW! It's a little crazy around here with all the noise. I love it when they go off to school ;-) I'm also impressed that you dug up your dahlias. I had good intentions for a couple of years, then just gave up and didn't plant anymore, since I never got around to digging them up.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! That is definitely the best part of autumn clearance; immediately afterwards planting bulbs for the spring display! The orange of ‘Princess Irene’ should look delightful up against Spirea 'Goldflame'.
ReplyDeleteyou can make a garden that's DYING look pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love your gardens! they looks simply fabishing!

Sounds like a wonderful day! And you're right--the memories will stick with you all. My 22-year-old son still remembers special days we spent together when he was very young. Congrats on getting all the bulbs in!
