Cherry Corner Garden in April

Pink Cherry blossom in Cherry Corner today.
Though it has been a bit cold at night, our days have been beautiful this week. And the plants have certainly responded to the weather!

Here are a few photos of our Cherry Corner garden (so called for the weeping cherry tree that is its center piece). I snapped them in the afternoon light sometime between watching the kids ride their bikes on the driveway, an afternoon homeschool session, writing a meal plan for next week, lying down for a wee rest, getting out pancakes to warm for dinner, and going grocery shopping until my mini van overflowed...  because we had no more food and were reduced to eating leftover pancakes for dinner!

The garden is such a reminder to me of the Lord's peace, and a greater Beauty, in the midst of a busy life. I hope it can be a reminder for you today as well.

A view of the Circle Lawn and Shade Path which are right beside Cherry Corner. The Narcissus 'Thalia' daffodils are just coming out.
Opposite view from the Shade Path to the corner. We have a four-way stop here, which makes even busy people stop to notice the flowers!
Pink weeping Cherry blooms echo the pink tips of the emerging variegated loosestrife below (Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander').
Cherry blossoms against a blue spring sky.
I envisioned the Circle Lawn and this weeping cherry tree creating overlapping circles some day. The tree was planted so its branches would fall over the outer edge of the lawn. Narcissus 'Pink Charm' blooms here after Narcissus 'Tete-e-tete' is finished. Muscari armenicum is just getting started as well.
The yellow Forsythia are a bit much for me with the pink cherry, but we are loving calling it our Christopher Lloyd combination. :)  It is good not to be too serious about color combinations after all! I live for the moment of spring where the orange tips of the Spirea 'Goldflame' pop out. Mr. Lloyd would have liked them as well here, I think.
In Hill Garden, salmon Tulipa 'Apricot Impression'  is just beginning. It is making a bookend at the moment with the pink weeping cherry on the other corner... with lots of yellow sandwiched in the middle!

In me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world.

  1. I've always wanted a weeping cherry tree. They don't grow well here. :( But, yours is absolutely gorgeous! If I were driving by, I would certainly stop for a few moments to take in its beauty. And I like the forsythia. It think it goes very well with the goldflame spirea. And together it all says "spring"!

  4. Beautiful planting, the cherry is stunning. I agree about colour in spring, it is the one season when I don't mind some clashes of colour. Christina
