Narcissus 'Tete-a-tete' and Crocus vernus 'Grand Maitre' are great partners, with the crocus usually starting first at the end of March and the daffodil beginning in April. If you are looking for places to plant them, I would suggest tucking them in near to your daylily (Hemerocallis) clumps. When put near rising daylily foliage, the daffodil foliage is not so hard to stomach during its necessary growing period. If you must plant them somewhere else, then you may chop down the foliage after you have waited six weeks from peak bloom.

-Oriental poppies (Papaver orientalis)

-Tulips, like Tulipa 'Ice Stick', Tulipa 'Persian Pearl' and viridiflora Tulipa 'China Town'

Love Tete-a-Tete, that is one I have a lot of as it is the most commonly forced 'mini' daff. So I got lots of leftover pots from the flower shop I used to work at. Hope I get to see mine this year.

ReplyDeleteGreat bulb combo Julie...our spring is not ahead anymore..it is standing still for weeks...crocus and other early bulbs faded in the heat and the daffs are very slow to show in the cold...soon the garden will play catch up and my head will be spinning with blooms..can't wait!
ReplyDeleteYour borders look beautiful with your narcissus and crocus. Our Tete a Tete were over a few weeks ago, we now have white Thalia everywhere which looks pretty with the blue of forget me nots, spring is such a wonderful time of year.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little combination. Mixing them with daylilies is a great idea. I bet they would look adorable in a pot, too. Even though they're small, those complimentary colors really pop!
