Purple Coneflower and Mugwort

Echinacea purpurea and white-flowering mugwort (Artemisia lactiflora 'Gutzhou')

A lovely combination for late summer/autumn. This combination was one that we spotted at Stan Hywet house and gardens in Akron, Ohio in their Great Garden. See more about this garden in my series on Stan Hywet... here

  1. That is a lovely combination! I'm surprised your Echinaceas look so fresh this late in the season. Mine are drying up and winding down. I leave the seedheads up all winter for the birds, though. Did you plant the Echinaceas and Mugworts from seed, or did you stagger them from plantings?

    1. This planting is actually from Stan Hywet house and gardens in Akron, Ohio.... a lovely garden that is worth a visit if you are ever in the area!

Yes, our coneflower are looking more past their prime at the moment, and we have been collecting seeds for next year as well as leaving some up for the birdies. They look so sculptural with snow on them too :)

  2. I've been collecting seeds like crazy from all the different coneflowers I have. I left them alone for the birdies to get some and now the rest are mine. The birdies will have lots more seeds from when I plant more coneflowers! :)
