Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day ~ January 2014

Paperwhite narcissus (Narcissus papyraceus) from a lovely friend.
Welcome to chilly Pennsylvania for GBBD!

It has definitely been too cold for outside flowers this winter. Last week it was -8 F (-22 C) in our area, with a windchill of -30 F (-34 C).  Last January, we already had snowdrops up. But each year has its own things to enjoy.

We are blessed to have a few white flowers inside this year to hold us over. And a new home to work on before spring plant begins! Here are a few views from around our new house...

We were happy to hang a few botanical prints of engravings we have from my grandmothers house. They are by H. Fletcher, Kensington 1730, and are a wonderful botanical education.
Sweetly scented lime blossoms of 'Bearss Seedless', Persian lime (Citrus × latifolia).
Orchid blooms to brighten our dining room...
And a little peek out of our library window to our oak-filled neighborhood. The stakes you can see in the foreground are the beginning of our knot garden, which will be sited just outside this window so it can be enjoyed during the winter months.

See more lovely gardens at May Dreams for GBBD.
Thanks for visiting!

    1. Thanks Janneke. The slope that you see goes toward to current front yard, which will someday be the side yard... I will need to post my drawing soon to share with you all!

  4. Lucky you with the citrus blooms! I'm hoping my new Lemon will do the same thing soon, but it's cold even in the sunroom still, so we shall see. I can't wait to hear more about your knot garden! Happy Bloom Day!

    1. Thanks Beth! Not only that, but they actually started blooming on the coldest day... the one that was -8 F. It was a good moment for it to left our spirits! All of my kids gathered around so we could sniff. :)

  6. All very pretty. Until I read the caption, I was thinking your Persian Lime was a coffee plant. Our coffee plant is one of the few flowering plants we have indoors but we don't look after it well so its flowering is eractic.

  7. I'm so glad that orchid season starts in January when we really need our spirits lifted. They are special anytime, but in the dead of winter they are such a treat.

  8. Wonderful post. How nice to have a new house to take up your thoughts and energy during the winter. Winter won't last long thuogh, and I can see that knot garden taking shape. Very smart to think about the view from the window.
