Colonial Williamsburg ~ Governor's Palace Garden

Bluebells by the Wall in the Governor's Palace Garden in Williamsburg, VA
Last May we took the kids to visit Colonial Williamsburg for the first time. It was a lovely experience! They really enjoyed it. And of course, our family spent a nice long time just enjoying the most beautiful garden in the place at the Governor's Palace. Here are a few shots of one wall and parterre at the back of the house.

lovely botanical finials...
...and the crest of the English monarchy at the back of the palace.
Box could use some precise clipping, but still they give a nice effect.

  2. Love those bluebells! I just planted some - Hyacinthoides non-scripta - and look forward to watching them (hopefully) multiply. I've never had the chance to smell them - did you enjoy the fragrance on your visit?

    1. Thanks! I did not notice a fragrance... perhaps they need to be indoors? I am hoping to plant a few this fall as well. Looking forward to seeing yours!

  3. I attended a conference in Colonial Williamsburg a few years ago. Loved it! Unfortunately, I didn't have enough free time to check out many of the gardens, but just being there was a pleasant sensory experience. Lovely photos! Your new format is fun!

    1. It is a lovely place... my girls loved getting to wear their fluffiest skirts everyday and imagine they live "back then". The gardens are worth going back for! They are not planted up with detail, but are lovely for their period interpretations. Many lovely plants. :) And the Palace garden is the most involved for sure!
