Dahlia 'Jean Marie'

Our first dahlia is blooming this week in the Front Walk Garden, Dahlia 'Jean Marie'.
As summer comes to our garden, the Front Walk continues its succession of blooms that started in early April with Anemone blanda 'White Splendour' and Tulipa 'Princess Irene'. Next was Tulip 'Cum Laude' and Allium 'Purple Sensation' in May, and Oriental Poppies (Papaver orientalis), more Allium and Catmint (Nepeta) in June. Dahlia 'Jen Marie' is next on stage, with the supporting cast of Cosmos and Ammi majus. We shall see how it goes as we move into August! So far, so good...

  1. I do like that Dahlia - I'm generally not too fond of the very bright 'in your face' types but this I could happily grow in my garden.

    1. Thanks Angie! I think it all depends on its situation. I am hoping to surround this one with some white froth.

  3. I've never grown Dahlias, but they are so beautiful! I think I like them more and more as the years go by--I don't know why.

  4. I have had my dahlias in since May and with all the rain you would think they would be blooming but they are barely 2 ft tall...I think i may just give up on growing these. Yours is so beautiful.

    1. Thanks Donna! I plant mine up in pots in the basement in March/April and then out in the garden at the end of May. I have just planted them out in May before and not had any blooms before they frosted in October, so that is the safer route if you live in zone 5 or colder. Hope that helps!
