Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum 'Higasayama'

The intricately patterned leaves of Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum 'Higasayama'

I first saw this beautiful Japanese maple tree, Acer palmatum 'Higasayama', in Chanticleer's Asian Woods garden last April. It is a small tree (15' x 12') with year-round interest for the garden.

Acer palmatum 'Higasayama' has pink and white tinges to it's spring foliage and red in the autumn.
It prefers moist, organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soils. It's name is said to have come from Mount Higasa in Japan.

    1. Chanticleer's gardeners are masters at plant combinations! There is a lot to learn from all of their gardens. Brunnera are so perfect for spring!

  5. Beautiful! I absolutely love Japanese Maples. Some of mine are beginning to leaf out. I've already had to protect a few with the recent frosts, extra work but so worth it. Stunning photo's.

  8. I have killed a couple of these, but I am determined to try again. Am going to ask for one for Mother's day. And the brunnera is gorgeous. That plant is now going on my wish list, too!
