Driveway Garden at the end of June

Driveway Garden in June: Asiatic Lily 'Rosella’s Dream', Geranium 'Orion', Lavender, Allium sphaerocephalon
Summer is in full swing around here in PA! It has been hot and the hose has been out more than once for the kids and the new perennials which are barely hanging on through this heat.  It has been a warm summer for sure and quite dry. I am a bit sorry for my garden, though really I am mostly enjoying that it is not a cold and gloomy summer like it is some years.

Asiatic Lily 'Rosella’s Dream' and Geranium 'Orion' are looking lovely together as usual. They are a great combination in this sunny garden. Once the geraniums start to look ratty, they are easily revived by cutting their finished flowering stems and tattered leave to the ground. New foliage will soon appear and will give you great autumn color in a few months.
Asiatic Lily 'Rosella’s Dream' is a beautiful pop pink with cream in the middle.
At the far end of the garden by the sidewalk is another great June/July combination for sun: Allium sphaerocephalon and dwarf miscanthus grass, Miscanthus sinensis 'Dixieland'. I love watching these two play off of each other from their easily stages and on. The Alliums are very long lasting, even in our intense heat.
In the middle is this pretty combination: Lavender and the light yellow tickseed, Coreopsis 'Moonbeam'. The yellow is a nice addition to the garden this year and lifts the palette. The green foliage at their base is the evergreen moss phlox (or creeping phlox), Phlox subulata.
See more of the Driveway Garden' succession planting March to November from last year.

  7. Glad your summer is more enjoyable than mine. Here it is uncomfortably hot; the garden is suffering, looking parched. Christina

  10. Lovely as always!!, wish you could send some of that sunshine to us, we have had so much rain these last two months here in Belgium and the UK, my flowers are holding their breath or just simply break of from the amount of rain and wind they have to endure. Of course gardeners always complain about the weather but this year it is a year of extremes!
