The Back Woodland is home to our naturalized
Crocus tommasinianus, which creates the most spectacular scene of the year in this garden area. We were
gifted this planting from some long ago gardener/owner of our property. After a good snow storm over the weekend, it is refreshing to see these little beauties uncover themselves to catch the sunshine. There were no pollinators about today, but perhaps tomorrow as the warmer weather continues?
They are blooming three weeks earlier this year, thanks to the mild weather.

So pretty! - a few days ago we finally got the snow we've been missing all winter - but I can't complain, we really needed it! Hopefully in a few weeks I will have signs of life...so happy I have your photos to give me a touch of spring : )

Wonderful little Tommies, they really do say that spring is here don't they! Yours seem to be seeding about beautifully, wish mine were as generous, early bees make the most of the pollen and nectar which is available on sunny days, wonderful seeing them working over the flowers.

Only snowdrops, daffodils and garlic do not concern to them, so we have practically as snowdrops, daffodils and garlic.
How gorgeous! Love them growing through the moss! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI adore these crocus and hope to see mine soon but alas we are in line for a bad storm with snow and ice so my crocus are staying below ground unless they are in a very protected area. I hope to achieve this beauty one day...just lovely.

ReplyDeleteI love this crocus, and it has spread everywhere in my garden in nice full clumps. It has been blooming for about a month here and just keeps going. I am really liking this weather now.
