Crocus tommasinianus for Early Spring

The bees are out drinking it up in the spring sunshine.
This is undoubtedly my favorite early spring crocus, as every year it spreads its cheery purple all around both of my gardens, here at Havenwood and Gilmore as well. I cannot get enough color at this time of year. Inevitably, I think, "Why did I not plant a few hundred more?"

Crocus tommasinianus spread as a carpet through the garden and lawn at Gilmore Gardens.
A few honey scented crocus and snowdrops that we brought inside to enjoy when the snow came again.
After the snow melted, the sun called them to open up again and let the bees enjoy their nectar.
If you are not enjoy these beauties in your lawn or garden this month, then put them on the list for your fall bulb order! Or better yet, find a gardening friend who has some and beg a few to get your carpet started. :)

Sending spring-thoughts your way,
~Julie

  1. Love little "Tommies", ours are unfortunately almost over now, but I must plant lots more in the autumn, I would love them in the lawn at the back.

  2. I loved to have these little beauties in the lawn, but the last years they are decreasing, are the rabbits guilty? I don't know.

    1. Now and then I will notice that some are nibbled by either the rabbits or squirrels... not sure which. But they are evidently not very tasty as they always give up. :)
