Mexican Sunflowers, Tithonia rotundifolia

Mexican Sunflowers, Tithonia rotundifolia

These have been the second most talked about flower in our gardens this year. (The first being our two large Thalictrum delaveyai planted near the road in the Rose Garden... always a winner.)

An annual, Tithonia rotundifolia began as a tiny seed in June and shot up to reaching first-story roof height by August.

It looks lovely here with the yellow flowers of bronze fennel. It is a favorite with the hummingbirds, butterflies and bumble bees. They are definitely worth some space in your garden next year!
