Garden Bogger's Bloom Day ~ June 2011

In our small-town Pennsylvania garden,
I love to walk around the house in June drinking in the scent. We just finished with heavenly-scented dame's rockets (Hesperis matronalis), and now on to the roses!

Long view of the Driveway Garden... an old pink rose now blooming in combination with Clematis 'Etoile Violette'... in front is a large patch of Sedum 'Acre', which I enjoy for its quick growth and yellow flowers... and on the right is the infamous Bishop's weed or Goutweed (Aegopodium podagraria L. ) flowering with Geranium 'Orion'(close-up below).
Drumstick allium (Allium sphaerocephalon) still in green is a great see-through plant at the front of the boarder.

Lavender with the just-coloring pixie Asiatic lilies by the walkway.
Some climbers for the month: This young Clematis 'John Warren' is a really pretty variety that I am pleased to have blooming with Geranium 'Orion'... just before the large lilies start in the Driveway Garden.
Clematis 'Lil' Nell' curling around the gate post
Clematis 'Ernest Markham' on the fence
An unnamed Clematis that is finally blooming for the first time
after a difficult climb into the mock orange shrub by the Circle Lawn
.
At the end of the Shade Path garden... Clematis 'Perle de' Azur' is beginning to climb one of the silver maple tree along with a climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala petiolaris).
The Circle Lawn is coming into its warm colors for the season.  It has become rather a Jekyllian planting at the transition point at the corner of the whole garden.
Yellow variegated loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander') and Sedum 'Acre' have begun the shift into the warm palette.  Next comes common orange daylilies and then some red.

The froth of the Front Walk... purple Allium christophii finishing up... blue catmint (Nepeta 'Walker's Low')... Spirea 'Goldflame' flowering pink.
 Spirea 'Goldflame'
The view down the green side of the Front Walk to the Hill Garden...
The foliage side of the Hill garden... with potted cannas added for more green & red interest...

The flowering side, with pink Rosa 'The Fairy' just beginning on the hill with the silvery lamb's ears (Stachys byzantina).

And some punchy views of the yellow and pink from the Front Woodland rounds out the tour.  Hemerocallis 'Stella de Oro' has begun and will continue for the month.

Looking forward to viewing all of
the other fabulous gardens at May Dream's Gardens
Thanks to Carol for hosting Garden Blogger's Bloom Day!

  3. The nice way you mix blooming plants come across so nicely in your overall shots. My favourite combination is the mix of the purple clematis and the roses.

  5. I do like the "Jekyllian planting" of colors transitioning seamlessly from cooler colors to warm, and back again.

I also like that you season most of your cool colors with just a hint of warmth, and vice-versa, which helps keep the relatively small property from feeling fragmented.

  11. Your plant pairs are wonderful...that rose and clematis at the beginning...stunning. And seriously, 'Rozanne' with the Bishops Weed is a winner...even if it is a bit of a thug!

  14. Wow, lots going on in your garden this month! Beautiful! I have some of the drumstick allium, as well, and your description of "see through" is perfect. Oh, I'll bet the combination of lavender and the Asiatic lilies is spectacular! Thanks for sharing :-)

  15. Hi Julie,
I found this post doing a search for yellow loosestrife. My husband saw some at a garden center and said he liked it. I told him it's a loosestrife, and those are too spready. I saw some at a garden tour, and the owner said the clump gets larger, but it doesn't spread out farther than the clump. I decided to get some to fill a couple spots in the side yard.

You sure have a beautiful place, and lots of lovely blooms!
